The chart, above, shows you our annual enrolment in each year and stream at the MBiotech Program.

What you need

Applicants admitted into the MBiotech Program must have the following—

1 A four-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any area of biological sciences, chemistry, engineering, or related field with a minimum mid-B (75 percent) standing in the final two years of study; and
2 A satisfactory score on the Graduate Record Examination (if required); and
3 A satisfactory score on an English Proficiency Test (if required); and
4 The MBiotech Program also evaluates applicants on their letter of intent, CV, three references, and both a science and business interview.

Canadian Degrees: Review your final two years of study which is equivalent to the final/most recent 10 credits taken (for which final grades have been received). Remember that—

  • 0·5/3·0 credit courses are considered as a 0·5 credit;
  • 1·0/6·0 credit courses are considered as 1 credit.

Simply count back from your most-recent courses completed, chronologically, until you have 10 credits total. Average the grades from these courses to see if you meet our GPA admission requirement. Part-time and summer courses are not to be included and do not affect the count.

International Degrees: Graduates of recognised academic institutions outside Canada should hold an appropriate bachelor’s degree or its equivalent as assessed by the University of Toronto. Please consult the International Credentials Equivalencies Tool to determine which international credentials are required for master’s admissions at U of T.

MBiotech’s Digital Health Technologies (DHT) stream is a two-year, full-time program comprised of required coursework and an internship placement in industry. No prior coding or statistical knowledge is assumed or required. Students complete 12 months of full-time study, after which they begin 8-12 months of mandatory, paid industry internships. You will be required to demonstrate an aptitude for quantitative analysis, which can be illustrated through at least two upper-year courses in the following subject areas: statistics, population genetics, biometrics, econometrics, computer science, applied chemistry, physics, etc.

The DHT stream represents MBiotech’s most recent, innovative offering.

While MBiotech combines science and business curriculum, no business courses are required for admission—just the interest! Similarly, applicants do NOT need programming or statistical background to apply to DHT.

Note: Due to the competitive nature of the application process, a GPA higher than the minimum may be required to recieve an offer for interview or admission. The average GPA of admitted students is typically between 83-85% in the final two years of study. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis, with all required documents being factored in. If you feel you meet the admission requirements, you can then apply as either a domestic or international applicant in September 2022.
